1.1.1 What do you want to teach with the game?

The first step in designing any learning activity, let it be a PPT presentation or a videogame is asking a question: what do you want to teach? In other words you should start with the learning goal.

Learning goals are broad description of what students will be capable of after the course or class. Goals tell the direction where students are going through the learning path. Every goal has to be realistic and achievable.

Once you define your learning goals it’s time to set a specific learning objectives that will drive your future game development to enable students to meet the learning goal.

Learning objectives are clearly written, specific statements of observable learner behavior or action that can be measured upon completion of an educational activity.

You may ask how learning goals differ from the learning objectives? The main difference is that goals are broad and hard to measure, when objectives are specific and have defined success criteria.
